Intensive Care Unit
Hillcrest Medical Center
I was in high school when I decided I wanted to become a nurse. After I received my degree, I worked in several hospitals before coming to Hillcrest Medical Center in 2000. I’ve been on the same unit since the day I arrived, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Working in intensive care, you get to know your patients and their families pretty well. I enjoy taking care of them and being their advocate.
One of the things I like most about working here is that Hillcrest Medical Center really values the input of its employees. Right now, I’m serving on our unit counsel, which looks for areas within the ICU that can be improved. We’re beginning some exciting initiatives to keep morale high and make new employees feel welcome. I also like the fact that continuing education is a priority here. I recently decided to go back to school to become a Clinical Nurse Specialist, and my managers have been extremely supportive. With the hospital’s preference scheduling program, I am able to arrange my work schedule around my classes.
As a nurse – and as a patient – it’s so important that you have the right environment to succeed. Hillcrest Medical Center provides that for me, and more.
